Stuff I Don’t Get

There are many things that I don’t get…stuff that evidently is God’s domain, stuff He has reasons for that I just cannot understand.  And on hard days, that just has to be enough.  It’s what I grab onto and hold onto with all my might.  God’s got it…God’s got it.  Some lyrics from U2’s Yahweh song really say it well:

“Take this soul, stranded in some skin and bones

Take this soul and make it sing, sing…

Yahweh…Yahweh….always pain before a child is born

Yahweh…Yahweh….still I’m waiting for the dawn…

The sun is coming out…the sun is coming up on the ocean…

Take this heart, take this heart, and make it break…”

(U2, “Yahweh”, HTDAAB)

He is teaching me something good, and it will be alright.  I’m waiting for the dawn, the sun that I know is coming out over the ocean.  I’ll be there with a big smile on my face and arms open wide to meet it.  Slainte, Lisa

Where the Streets Have No Name

IMG_3330

If this cliffside pathway can be considered a street, then this one definitely has no name.  (except maybe Scary and Beautiful, altogether)  I put forth that it could be a street, as a street is a pathway, a way to journey or travel.  And as you see, my son definitely did travel and achieve his destination, along the rocky path on to the edge of Ireland.  May God bless your streets and pathways today with crossable rocks and journeys abundant!  🙂  Slainte, Lisa

With A Little Help

friends dock

We Americans tend to be rugged individualists, and that can be a good thing and a bad thing.  Sometimes it’s good to work hard and stand without needing constant assistance.  But sometimes, we all need other people.  We need their encouragement, their laughter and smiles, and their help.  To help us stand a little taller, ease the burden for a little while, and let us know we are not alone.

So today, I am thankful for those people in my life….my husband, my parents, health care people, friends, and the list could go on and on.  Because “sometimes you can’t make it on your own.”  (U2, Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own, HTDAAB)  Thank you so much for helping me in this journey; you all make it much better. 🙂  Slainte, Lisa

Stuck In a Moment

IMG_3086
Things happen sometimes…and not always good things.  School things, work things, home things, health things…this list could go on until we were both really down.  🙂  And sometimes your mind can just get stuck in a loop, playing that mistake or that problem over and over again until it’s almost bigger than it is in reality.  For those of us who enjoy their imaginations, it can be a particularly troublesome aspect.  How to get out of the imagining, the thinking too hard, and into action steps to try to make the problem better.  Two things have been helping me lately…. this verse: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  (Matthew 11:28,29b)

And this song:  “Stuck in a Moment”  c 2000 U2  (excerpts)

“You’ve got to get yourself together; you got stuck in that moment

And you can’t get out of it…

And if the night runs over, and if the day won’t last

And if your way should falter along the stony pass,

It’s just a moment, this time will pass.”

It will pass, and God is my rest.  That’s what I need to know.  Be encouraged in whatever you’re facing today and keep walking.  Slainte, Lisa

Seeing Beauty

Traffic Jam vs. Cool Cows on the Mooove?

End of warm temperatures vs. beautiful changing leaves and fuzzy sweaters

Daily irritations over life issues vs. being alive to go through these things and growing stronger afterwards

Aches & pains vs. having a body in which to have aches and pains

All of us have things in this life which weigh us down and can try to steal our joy.  But there are always two sides to almost anything I can think of, and if I can just flip my mind around to the positive side, it makes a huge difference.  Finding the joy in this day, in this moment.   “When you stop seeing beauty, you start growing old.”  (Summer Rain, U2)  I want to be young in the Lord, because He sees things as they are.  He sees beauty and creativity and life and love and potential.  He sees hope of an abundant, full life in Him.  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  (John 10:10)

Blessings to you on this day, and may you (and I) have thankfulness overflowing.       Slainte, Lisa
