A Tune Until Morning

I rediscovered an old friend yesterday, this Domnahl na Gruen low D whistle, handmade by Daniel McGinley in Knoydart, Scotland.

Domnahl na Gruen means ‘Daniel of the Sun.’ Another spelling of the tune is ‘Domhnall Na Graine.’ The lyrics paint a lovely and touching story.

A man was very ill, and he wasn’t getting any better. One night, he stumbled out of his house in total frustration. He came upon a man in the street who asked why he was so unhappy. He told the stranger that he was ill and couldn’t recover. The stranger told him he had a tune. If the ill man would learn the tune from him, mastering it by morning his sickness would be gone. The stranger lilted the tune so that he could learn it. The sick man spent the rest of the night burning it into his memory. In the morning, he felt well enough to pick up his fiddle and play it. His sickness had gone. https://thesession.org/tunes/1317

God often uses music to heal, to refresh, to provide hope to a weary soul. Think of David playing for King Saul. “And whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well, and the harmful spirit departed from him.” (1Samuel 16:23)

“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the LORD, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” – Psalm 98:4-7

When I See

This song was written as I journeyed through a difficult passage of life. I pray it encourages your soul this morning, no matter what you are traveling through. Jesus never leaves us or forsakes us. He will come in glory in the clouds someday soon, and we will see Him. And every tear will be wiped away. Praise God! If you need prayer, let me know. I would love to pray for you. Blessings, Lisa

No Words, Only Music

I have been playing the piano this morning. Longing, sweet, melancholy melodies that express what is inside me in a way that words can never do. Pouring frustrations out upon the keys. Feeling the feelings as they come.

Healing through the keys, through the instrument, through the music. One note at a time.

Love, Lisa

If you are looking for a listening or playing recommendation this morning, I heartily and unreservedly recommend Benny Andersson, Piano.

The Unchanging

36

In these days of uncertainty, people are searching for safety, security, hope.  Something that is unchanging and steady.

“I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” – Revelation 22:13

“Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8

“I lift my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:1-2

The Unchanging.

Soul Healing

22

Physical healing is a wonderful thing.  But all of us, if we are honest, need healing of our souls as well.  The deep part of us that makes us us.  The part of us, that is different from every other person on this planet, placed in us by God at our conception.

Here are some things that God uses to heal my soul:

……a sunset with all the colors of a masterpiece

……the sounds of the ocean crashing on the shore

……my favorite songs cranked loudly in the car

……quiet time, reading God’s Bible, words of how much He loves me, no matter what

……going outside, doing just about anything, but really seeing, smelling, feeling, listening

……singing, with no holding back

……playing the piano, getting lost in the notes

……seeing, hearing the eyes and smiles and voices of those I love

…..praying and pouring out my heart to the One who made me and cares forever what is going on in my life.

This list could go on and on.  But it is good for me to remember.  Because soul healing helps everything….the body, the mind, the heart.  I encourage you to make your own list soon, and go after some of that soul healing.  Blessings on your day.  Love, Lisa
