Prayers

This morning, as I am reading all the forecasts and projections for Hurricane Sandy’s landfall, I am also praying.  Not a big fancy prayer, but simple, short sentences that fill my mind as I read.  “Help them, God.”  “Please give everyone safety.”  Here in Virginia we’re looking at lots of rain and some wind gusts tonight into tomorrow.  But wherever you are right now, be thankful that you are safe and reading this, and hug those that may be close by, or at least tell them that you appreciate them.  Because anytime that things like this come along, it’s a wake-up call that our God-given life is precious, and that moments are precious, and that it is such a blessing to be here together.  Be safe, and be God’s.  Slainte, Lisa

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress.  He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.  They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired haven.”  (Psalm 107:28-30)

It’s Only Us

“There is much satisfaction in work well done; praise is sweet, but there can be no happiness equal to the joy of finding a heart that understands.”  – Victor Robinson

I’m reflective this morning.  (uh-oh)  Writing all that stuff yesterday in the blogathon has done that to me, and now to you.  Blogging has an amazing side effect that is wonderful…it helps all of us to see that we’re not so different as we think we are.  We are all created humans that are loved by an amazing God, and we all think and move and breathe and dream and hope.  So this post is just a thank you, to all of you whose blogs inspire me and challenge me and help me to see that we can try to understand each other, because we’re all in this ship together.  And if we cling onto the Captain, we can try to love each other just a fraction of how much He loves us.  And that would be a whole lot.  Slainte, Lisa

“Is it time for reason, is it time for trust?  Well there’s no them, only us….is it time for reason, has your heart had enough?  Is it time to let go and rise above?” – (Rise Above, Spiderman Musical, Bono & Edge)

I Can’t Tell You…

I can’t tell you whose birthday it is today, because he/she is the subtle, don’t make a big deal about it birthday kind of person.  A “birthday protection program” of sorts.  So in leiu of a big giant embarrassing greeting online for everyone to see, I will post a picture of them in darkened silhouette, to protect their privacy.  🙂

Since I’m not wishing them a happy birthday in public, I will choose to share this quote from J.R.R. Tolkien instead.  “Still round the corner there may wait, a new road, or a secret gate.”  May your day be full of adventure, your year be full of joy, and your life be full of love, dear anonymous one.  Blessings and Love, Lisa

Dwelling in Safety

You would have to live in a very dark, deep cave with amazing soundproofing, unlimited supply of food and water, not to know that there is a presidential election occuring in the United States.  While I always try to vote conscientiously, I am not an overly political person who enjoys engaging in political debate.  However, I just wanted to share a few words from the wisest of all Counsel this morning.

Many are asking, “Who can show us any good?”  Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.  You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.  I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.  (Psalm 4:6-8)

Yes, I will vote for the candidate who I believe will help this country be the strongest and healthiest.  Yes, I will pray for the leaders, whoever they may be.  But my trust will stay in God above, the maker of heaven and earth.  Blessings, Lisa

The Art of Busking

On any given day on Grafton Street in Dublin, if you pay attention, there are talented (and not so talented) street performers, or buskers.  (or in New York, Moscow, and even Charlottesville, VA for that matter)  People who just want to sing, or play, or perform, and they’re not waiting for an inside venue or traditional booking.  They just put themselves out there, play or sing their heart out, and hope for the drop of some money into their cases or hats afterwards.  As a musician, I am fascinated by busking; I’ve always wanted to try it, but have been hesitant.  I mean, what if everyone just walks by and no-one listens?  What does that do to you as a performer?  I think it takes a brave and fearless type person to busk, and I admire them.  🙂

These two pictures show two groups that we saw in Dublin.  The “statue” guys would freeze into a position and hold it as long as it took.  As soon as someone dropped a coin or money into their jar, they would move into their next frozen spot.  People would talk to them and try to get them to laugh or move, but these guys were good.  We watched them a long time, and talked with them when they went on break.  They had worked and backpacked their way all across Europe just by performing their act on the city streets in the country they were in.  Super cool.

BML

This duo called themselves “BML” and performed well-known songs on dual electric fiddles.  They were very accomplished, and sold quite a few of their CD’s in the 15 minutes that we watched them.

So, who knows, one of these days maybe I’ll work up the courage to take myself to the Charlottesville downtown mall, and set up my stuff and sing away.  Or maybe not.  🙂  Slainte, Lisa
