Not Just An Old Stick

When my dear Nannie was in her 90s, she would call herself an “old stick.” We would always lovingly tell her that she was definitely not an old stick and that she was beautiful. That God still had a purpose for her. We talked a lot about how she could pray for people. That she had the time and the heart to do so. And I know she did. Nannie loved her God, loved her church, and loved her family. And so she prayed to her heavenly Father as she sat in her chair. She was a fruitful, beautiful branch attached to the Vine.

Sometimes I feel hopeless in many situations. What can I do? What can possibly help? The only thing that can help many times is prayer. Turning that person or situation over to Jesus our Shepherd.

When you don’t know what to do, pray. If you don’t know God, pray. Ask Him to show you that He is real. He will.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

On Earth As It Is In Heaven

What will happen? How will things turn out? Can I fix it? What can I do?

This morning, Christ is impressing on my mind one thought. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Pray, pray, and pray more. Let Him work out the outcome according to His perfect will. Let it be on earth as it is in Heaven, Lord, I pray.

Watch and Pray

“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.” – Matthew 24 :42-44

Watch and Pray

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.  For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth.  Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”  – Jesus, Luke 21:34-36

I am praying, not as much as I should, please have mercy on me, Lord Jesus.

Turning my eyes away from this world and onto God is hard, yet becoming increasingly easy.  I don’t want to see the things that try their best to bring terror to my heart through the news reel.  I want to focus on my family’s faces, feel their hugs, hear their voices.  Enjoy quiet times together in the family room.  I want to read Jesus’ words, because he always knows just what to say and how to say it.  I want to focus on the things to come, the things of God, the things of heaven, the things that matter.
