This castle hallway in Ireland has been well-used and well-loved over the years. Now, the castle lies in ruins, yet the memories of what was remain for any visitor who is blessed with an imagination. Our old house here in the States has some well-worn stairs as well, but I dare say with a bit more foot space left on them. One of my favorite things to think of is the many feet attached to the many different characters who have run, plodded, skipped and sat upon our stairs over the years. Stories…memories….life. A Story of Love
Our Christmas tree is full of stories, love stories. As we unpack and hang each ornament, memories flood back with each little bauble. The M&M guys that Joshua loved as a child, the sparkly snowflakes that Nina made which always lose sparkles each year but still seem to stay nice, the pretty ballerina that Amy looks forward to seeing each year. I’m sure all of you have your favorite “love story” ornaments…please feel free to share your story. 🙂 Meanwhile, here are some pictures of some of our favorites. Have fun making memories this weekend. Slainte, Lisa
Flying With My Dad
When I was younger and still living at home, my dad took flying lessons and got his private pilot’s license. It was thrilling to think of my dad up there flying around, and we couldn’t wait for him to be able to officially take us up for the first time. He had a little Cessna 4-seater, and it was perfect. Dad & Mom up front, my sister and I in the tiny backseat. That little plane would take off, and magically we’d be soaring up in the sky with the birds and the clouds and landing in places like Bryce Ski Resort for dinner, or sometimes just the neighboring airport. It didn’t matter too much where we went; it was how we got there that made it amazing. And the fact that my dad was flying us there made him super-cool and made us all feel super-safe. One time I got to fly with Dad alone, and he let me take the wheel for a little while. Amazing memories. And amazing how the fun things that parents do, stick with their children for a lifetime. 🙂 Thanks, Dad, and thanks, Mom, for being cool enough to let him fly. Love, Lisa
A Picture of A Picture
This is a picture of my pictures, which reside in the becoming-obsolete object called a picture album. This album dates back to our first trip to Ireland from 2001. These images show Joshua, then 7, ready to enjoy our day on the boat watching Fungi the dolphin jump and do tricks in Dingle’s waters. These days, all of my pictures reside on tiny memory cards, or hidden deep in the recesses of my laptop’s storage banks. And there are no new pictures in my photo albums.
At first I lamented this, and tried valiantly to print all the digital pictures we shot. But there is no keeping up with this…the wonders of digital photography let you shoot so many wonderful pictures, too many to print all the time. So I settle for printing the really special ones, and view my pictures in a new way. And it’s a good thing. But I still feel a warm, nostalgic feeling as I open a special volume filled with memories, with pictures in time captured and carefully placed in a book.
Tell me…do any of you still keep photo albums? Or have you converted to digital viewing?
Make some beautiful photo-worthy memories today. Slainte, Lisa
