Love Like Waves

God’s waves in the sky over our home in Virginia this afternoon

Love is like waves…..endless, beautiful, eternal, deep.

Waves can sooth because of their eternal nature.

Waves can carry you because of their properties.

Waves can be calm, playful, or stormy.

Waves can leave you breathless because of their great power.

Waves drown out all else because of their beauty and sound and being.

Waves can fill you up with God’s love, God’s voice, God’s power.

Love, true love, real love is like waves.

Lord, let me love like waves…..endlessly, relentlessly, unconditionally, eternally.

Christ in me, Christ before me, Christ behind me.

Christ to my left, Christ to my right.

Like the waves.

Love, Lisa

Keep Being Strong

Which is stronger? The mighty ocean, crashing upon the immovable rocks?

Or the humble sheep, trusting in his shepherd to lead him to pasture and water?

I would argue both are strong. Trust and faith take great strength. Strength only comes from the power of the only truly strong One. The Lord Jesus Christ.

My dad once told me, “You’re being strong. Keep being strong.” I can tell you that I do not feel like a strong person. I have many anxieties, physical weaknesses and chronic disability. But his faith in my strength helps me to remember that true strength resides within. It comes from relying, moment by moment, on Christ.

” ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me….For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” – 1 Corinthians 1:27

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

“Finally, be strong in the LORD and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” – Ephesians 6:10-11

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:29, 31

Keep being strong. Love, Lisa

The Mist, The Winter, The Star

There is a thick mist this morning. Sitting quietly and peacefully upon the earth, cloaking all with its heaviness. But the effect is quite calming. As if everything is taking a deep rest, a pause, a waiting. Waiting for the Christmas star this evening, the lining up of Saturn and Jupiter, for the first time in 800 years. Waiting for the sky to clear and God’s glory to be revealed. Waiting for the celebration of Christ’s birth. Expectant, hopeful.

Expectant despite the advent of the cold.

Hopeful despite COVID and political differences.

The Lord Jesus Christ, the One who is triumphant over the cold, the despair, the differences, the sicknesses, the hopelessness.

“There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” – Proverbs 23:18

Expectant, hopeful. Love, Lisa

Surrender

See the source image

I love to try to fix things. I love to try to offer the perfect advice that will make everything alright. I love to be there and try to put myself in their place and help.

All of that is well and good, but many times, what is really needed is for me just to listen.

That’s it.

Surrender control, surrender thinking that somehow I know what is best, surrender trying to fix everything.

The only thing I can control is how I love God and love others. God is strong enough and more than capable of fixing the problems of the world. Infinitely more qualified and wise and in control.

Love, love, love. That is what I can control. Surrender to love. Big, expansive, never ending, unconditional, smiling, laughing, hugging love. Running headlong into a field of daisies love. Yelling loud from the top of a mountain love. Nestling deep into a comfy bed of blankets love.

Surrender, Lisa. And love.

Love, Lisa
