2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 5,700 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 10 years to get that many views.

Being on a Break

A sheep on a break

Taking a break from blogging is nice sometimes, just to give your brain a rest for a few days.  But coming back from the blog break is hard.  That first blog back…what to say, what picture to use, how to be somewhat witty again.  It’s like my brain got stuffed with turkey along with the rest of me.  So this is what you have….the official first blog back from the break is a blog about coming back from a break.  Brilliant.  🙂

Hope all of you are recovering nicely from your Thanksgiving holidays, and getting back into the day-to-day with as much ease as possible.  Or maybe just kick back in your chair like this sheep here and try again tomorrow.  🙂    Slainte, Lisa

It’s Only Us

“There is much satisfaction in work well done; praise is sweet, but there can be no happiness equal to the joy of finding a heart that understands.”  – Victor Robinson

I’m reflective this morning.  (uh-oh)  Writing all that stuff yesterday in the blogathon has done that to me, and now to you.  Blogging has an amazing side effect that is wonderful…it helps all of us to see that we’re not so different as we think we are.  We are all created humans that are loved by an amazing God, and we all think and move and breathe and dream and hope.  So this post is just a thank you, to all of you whose blogs inspire me and challenge me and help me to see that we can try to understand each other, because we’re all in this ship together.  And if we cling onto the Captain, we can try to love each other just a fraction of how much He loves us.  And that would be a whole lot.  Slainte, Lisa

“Is it time for reason, is it time for trust?  Well there’s no them, only us….is it time for reason, has your heart had enough?  Is it time to let go and rise above?” – (Rise Above, Spiderman Musical, Bono & Edge)

Ready for the Climb

“Ready for the Climb”

Ready….ready for many things, but mostly for the music

Love, love, love…both the base and the goal

Rocks, barriers, turned ankles, hurting knees

Continuing nevertheless, knowing the worth of the top

Holding onto the hand of the only One who can get me there

Clinging with all my love, and knowing He will never let me go.

(Lisa Lyons, c2012)

Keep climbing this week, and don’t forget to look around and enjoy the view as you go.  🙂    Slainte, Lisa

“As Kind As Summer”

Some of you know that I’m re-reading “The Hobbit” by Tolkien.  Bilbo and company have just left Rivendell, and are heading out past the Edge of the Wild.  A description of Elrond, the chief elf at Rivendell, struck me.  Tolkien said he was “as kind as summer.”  Sometimes words just hit you, and the way that they are ordered and phrased play around in your mind.

As kind as summer:

cooling breeze on a sweltering day

running outside without shoes and coats

splashing in an obliging ocean or pool

sipping a cool drink on a shady porch in a rocking chair

holding hands outside gazing at the stars

having time to lay back and just relax

greens and blues and yellow sun, white puffy clouds

picnics on blankets and looking for four-leaf clovers afterwards

a break from normal

As autumn is here, it’s kind of nice to look fondly back at the summer we had, and the summer we will look forward to returning.   Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy the changing colors, and kicking the leaves, and sipping on a warm tea.  Slainte, Lisa

….If you have any words to share about “kind summer”, please do.  🙂
