Oversleeping: A Tale of Contentment and Consternation

overslept
The Setting:  A dark, rainy, overcast, soft morning

The Scene:  All occupants of the house are blissfully sleeping, happy and snug in their nice warm beds under mounds of blankets.

The Precipitating Moment:  Youngest occupant of the house awakens, which alerts the other sleeping people of life past the bedcovers.

Pinnacle of the Action:  Oldest occupants glance casually at the clock and discover, that, oh my goodness, they have seriously overslept!

Predictable and Cliched Outcome:  Mad clash of running around, skipping morning routines, racing heartbeats, leading to eventual calming as bus is made, truck takes off for work.

Lesson Learned:  Double check alarm tonight.  🙂

Have a peaceful and hopefully un-consternated day.  Slainte, Lisa

Jenga and Life

We love the game “Jenga” at our home.  The thrill of finding that loose piece, and then placing it on top without making the tower fall, is a simple thrill that makes us all happy.  Near the end, you end up practically holding your breath so that tower will stay up and in one piece.  “Don’t fall, don’t fall,” is the constant refrain.

But eventually, it falls.  And guess what?  We rebuild the tower and start again.

The obvious comparison is there in our lives.  We eventually fall, or fall short, in some way.  We can’t be perfect all the time (or even some of the time) and stand straight and tall and unwavering forever.  But the amazing news is that Jesus will pick us back up, dust us off, and let us start the game over totally new with His strength.

“The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all He has made.  The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”  -Psalm 146:13b-14

Don’t give up; the tower can be rebuilt.  Blessings, Lisa

Contented He’ll Remain

Ever yearn for greener pastures, for things you don’t have, for something different?  We all do sometimes if we’re honest with ourselves.  But in reality, the something different isn’t always what we imagine it to be.  Many different song lyrics come into my mind right now…”What you don’t have, you don’t need it now…”  “But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need….” and so on.  (Disclaimer:  For those of you who know me, don’t worry…I haven’t been thinking about running away.  🙂  )

Being content and grateful for what’s right around us; a great gift from God.  Here is my very favorite Cara Dillon trad cover of “Spencer the Rover” which illustrates the story of a man who went through hard times, left home, but then dreamed of his family and friends.  He missed them greatly, and returned realizing that they were what he needed all along.  “Contented he’ll remain, and not ramble away.”  Enjoy her wonderful vocals, and her husband Sam Lakeman’s amazing piano playing.  Blessings, Lisa

Escapist Therapy

Seeing how it’s Monday, and January, and cold (at least here), I think we all could use a little escapist therapy. 🙂 Study the three pictures below, and decide which one you would go to, right now, if you had a flying carpet. Cast your vote, and we’ll see which escape suits you guys best! Slainte, Lisa

Bounding Up the Hill

IMG_2588

My dog Fritz is one of my heroes.  He is now 15 and a half years old, and going strong.  🙂  He can’t hear or see much anymore and has trouble with his back legs, but he doesn’t let that stop him.  He does laps around the house, “working out” as we call it.  He still enjoys his food to the maximum.  He still gets playful at nighttime.  And yesterday when I took him for a walk, I almost had to run to keep up with him.  Excited, sniffing, eager….and when we got to our final hill of the driveway, he was bounding and pulling at the leash going up the hill.  What an inspiration and joy he is to us.  My husband and I look at him all the time and say that he is what we want to be like when we get older.  Loving life and loving us.  What more could you ask for in a dog and a friend.  Have a blessed day, and bound up a few hills!  Slainte, Lisa
