A Tale of Caution

Watch this video of one of our resident hummingbirds, and we’ll talk afterwards. Make sure to have your sound up.

Ok…..what struck you about sweet little Howard the Hummingbird? Was he content and happy, drinking his sweet nectar in the feeder? Or did he seem nervous, agitated, borderline obsessed?

Howard has declared himself the hummingbird bully of the yard. He will not allow any other birds to come near ‘his’ feeder, will body slam them if they do, and sits there giving himself a neck crick constantly looking back and forth for offenders.

What really struck me as I watch him, is that Howard is not happy with his possession. He hardly drinks, he doesn’t fly much except for his body slamming, and he seems paranoid. I feel sorry for Howard. The possession seems to own him.

So, a cautionary tale for yours and my Monday morning. I pray we can enjoy and use and appreciate the things we own, and not obsess over them.

P.S., as a side note, listen to the happy tweeting birds in the background….a peaceful juxtaposition to poor Howard.

P.S.S., I love Howard….I just wish he could relax a bit and be kind to the other guys. 🙂 Love, Lisa

Dreaming

The best of dreams forms in my mind

The green, the blue, the grey

The castles long forgotten stand

The stones that go on forever

Sheep that roam, seemingly boundless

The laughter, the warmth, the people

The place I breathe and dream the best

Ireland

I dreamed last night about Ireland….so hence the poem. I am excited for the day when we can finally travel there again. But for now, I am going to pet my dog, call my husband, look out at our mountain, and listen for any winter birds that may be hanging around for a Virginia winter. Have a wonderful day, wherever you are in the world. Love, Lisa

What I’m Waiting For

What I’m waiting for….

Christmas, peace, family getting together, walking better, eggnog

Music, losing weight, Jesus coming back, hugs, understanding

Always waiting, but maybe,

By always looking forward I’m missing the now

The beauty of right now….the messes, the expectation,

The reaching for something, the trying, the loving

The starting over again new each morning

Knowing that God’s faithfulness is there through it all.

Fresh Wind of Change

happydog

Usually change terrifies me….but God is doing something new in me.  Changes are coming in our family, and I’m feeling rather exhilarated, excited, anticipatory.  (Plus, I’m wanting to use flowery adjectives, which is not such a good thing.  haha)  New schools, new job, new challenges and schedules.  Not boring, not predictable, and definitely not the same-old, same-old.  🙂  The winds of change are blowing, but I’m not afraid because my good God is in the middle of it all.  Blessings to you today, Lisa
