Tricking Myself

rainireland

It’s raining.  It’s Monday.  Hmmm….I could post “Rainy Days & Mondays” by the Carpenters, but that wouldn’t help a bit.  🙂  So I think a little tricking of myself is in order to flip this mood around.  I hereby publish:

The Five Official Reasons to Love a Rainy Day:

1.  The rain makes everything greener, and I love green for sure.

2.  The rain makes me very tired chilled out, which makes for a relaxing day.  And I like relaxing for sure.

3.  The rain sounds cool on my tin roof, and I like cool sounds for sure.

4.  Gene Kelly looks super happy “Singing in the Rain”, and I like watching that for sure.  genekelly

5. ?

Oh, well, I guess it’s now The Four Official Reasons to Love a Rainy Day.   And four out of five ain’t bad.  Slainte, Lisa

Oversleeping: A Tale of Contentment and Consternation

overslept
The Setting:  A dark, rainy, overcast, soft morning

The Scene:  All occupants of the house are blissfully sleeping, happy and snug in their nice warm beds under mounds of blankets.

The Precipitating Moment:  Youngest occupant of the house awakens, which alerts the other sleeping people of life past the bedcovers.

Pinnacle of the Action:  Oldest occupants glance casually at the clock and discover, that, oh my goodness, they have seriously overslept!

Predictable and Cliched Outcome:  Mad clash of running around, skipping morning routines, racing heartbeats, leading to eventual calming as bus is made, truck takes off for work.

Lesson Learned:  Double check alarm tonight.  🙂

Have a peaceful and hopefully un-consternated day.  Slainte, Lisa

God’s Teardrops

Rain in Ireland

Does God feel what we feel?  Does He understand what it means to be human, to cry, to laugh, to dance, to mourn?  I believe that He does.

Jesus wept when confronted with the sorrow of his friends Mary & Martha at the death of their brother Lazarus, even though He knew He would raise him back to life.  He had great compassion.

God let Jesus walk this road with us so He would understand completely what we go through each day in this life.  And it is wonderful to know that He knows.  “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

Leaky Shoes with a Good Umbrella

There is an Irish proverb which states:

“It’s no use carrying an umbrella if your shoes are leaking.”

My dog Fritz and I are here to say that this is a very true statement.  I just attempted to take him outside for his morning walk in a steady rain that shows no signs of letting up for the next few days, according to the weatherman.  He looked at me at the doorway with the big sad eyes you see here.  He is part poodle, and has a distinct dislike of getting his feet wet.  I carried a big umbrella, and he pushed that little doggie body as close to my legs as he could.  But it was no use.  We both got our feet wet, very wet, and the umbrella just seemed silly after awhile.  Now that we are both drying off and gearing up for our next foray into the wild, I thought about other stuff, like how I try to make everything in my life seem good and dry and perfect on the outside, while sometimes my shoes, my foundation, my base is leaking.  When I lose track of the things that are really important in my life, like God, and my family, and my friends, and start just focusing on my umbrella of how the house looks, how many things I have to get done, my shoes are leaking, and the umbrella is rather silly and useless.

May you have sturdy shoes and no need for an umbrella!  🙂  Slainte, Lisa
