Azure and Turquoise

Where am I?  Is it the crystal blue seas of the Caribbean? These beautiful azure and turquoise seas are found in Dingle, Ireland on Coumeenoole Beach, the famous beach filmed in “Ryan’s Daughter.”  Soft sand, crystal blue waters and protective cliffs towering around you…what more can you ask for in a beach?  🙂

For those of you who could use a little “wave therapy” to start out your weekend, here’s a video capturing the sounds of the ocean as well as the stunning scenery.

Isn’t it always amazing how truly beautiful the things that God has made are?  Slainte, Lisa

Takes Me Back

Walking outside this morning after the long rain last night, I caught a sudden whiff of the ocean, of salty air, of fish.  Yet we are hours away from the sea.  One moment, one smell on the damp air, and I was there at the ocean on a rainy morning.

Hearing “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams instantly takes me back to my senior year of high school, when I was in my very first band with some high school mates.  We practiced for weeks, had one gig at a birthday party, and then I had to get my wisdom teeth out and go to college.

Waking up in the dark for any reason instantly puts me back to my childhood vacations, when Dad would pick us up out of bed at 2 or 3 in the morning and carry us to the car where we could continue sleeping (or not :)) in the back of the station wagon till morning.

I am a forward looking person usually; I love planning and looking ahead to the adventures still in store.  But these little instantaneous transports are amazing, and I look forward to the times in my future when some smell or sound or sight will take me back.   Slainte, Lisa

“As Kind As Summer”

Some of you know that I’m re-reading “The Hobbit” by Tolkien.  Bilbo and company have just left Rivendell, and are heading out past the Edge of the Wild.  A description of Elrond, the chief elf at Rivendell, struck me.  Tolkien said he was “as kind as summer.”  Sometimes words just hit you, and the way that they are ordered and phrased play around in your mind.

As kind as summer:

cooling breeze on a sweltering day

running outside without shoes and coats

splashing in an obliging ocean or pool

sipping a cool drink on a shady porch in a rocking chair

holding hands outside gazing at the stars

having time to lay back and just relax

greens and blues and yellow sun, white puffy clouds

picnics on blankets and looking for four-leaf clovers afterwards

a break from normal

As autumn is here, it’s kind of nice to look fondly back at the summer we had, and the summer we will look forward to returning.   Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy the changing colors, and kicking the leaves, and sipping on a warm tea.  Slainte, Lisa

….If you have any words to share about “kind summer”, please do.  🙂

The Sea Rolls On

Gazing off the coast from Doolin

“The Sea Rolls On”

Oh, the sea rolls on like our God in heaven above

He goes on and on, never leaving, never tiring

Oh, the mighty Love of God reaching down to us

Oh, the sea rolls on like our God in heaven above
