A Basket of Crackers, Anyone?

Life is funny.  And the strange, odd things that occur are sometimes the funniest.  Like yesterday, my husband and I went out for a nice lunch together at a nice Greek restaurant.  We order, and as we’re waiting for our meal, the nice waitress calmly brings our drinks, and a large basket filled up with saltine CRACKERS!  Now, maybe I’m not up-to-date on Greek tradition, but this struck us both as hilarious.  Here is the aforementionned basket.

Now that’s a lot of crackers to eat, unless you’re extremely fond of saltines, or you belong to a family of 18 people.  We started laughing, and couldn’t stop.  My husband who happens to love crackers, could barely eat them.

The child in the booth behind us began peeking around and staring at us.  We knew we had to pull it together.  Thank God for laughter; it was better than 40 hours of therapy and massage put together.    Here’s a new Irish blessing for you…May you have all the crackers you need, and never reach the bottom of your basket.  🙂  Slainte, Lisa

Crossed Wires

We thought that the sound system had finally given up on us…the trusty sound system that had carried voices and instruments for concerts over the last 20 years had had enough.  There was no electricity in the outlets at the outdoor venue in which we were setting up…no time for a sound check before the electricity finally surged back into the lines.  A horrible buzzing sound emitted from the speakers.

Last night, we set the whole system up again in our dining room.  And lo and behold, we discovered that we had put two wires in the wrong places.  The good old sound system sounded crystal clear and was raring to go.  Which of course prompted an impromptu concert at home for my poor children to have to listen to.  🙂

Being hooked up to the right source is crucial; our energy flows, and we feel alive and well and purposeful.  Having our wires crossed, or connecting to bad sources, leads to confusion, unusefulness, and no direction.

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  (John 10:10b)

Have a wonderful, God-powered day!  Slainte, Lisa

Sweet Music

Music expresses that which can not be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” -Victor Hugo

Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.” – unknown

I have no pleasure in any man who despises music. It is no invention of ours: it is a gift of God.” – Martin Luther

“Most people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try.”          -Mary Kay Ash

Find your song, whatever it is, and play it.  It is beautiful, and it is yours, given by God.

The Best Donkey I Never Really Knew

Sometimes you meet people or animals on your travels that you wished you had the time to get to know better.  If you actually lived there, they would be the ones you would make sure to take the time to say “hi” to, to visit, to pet through the fence everyday on your way by.  This little donkey is one of those.  He hangs out near the boats at Lord Brandon’s Cottage on the Gap of Dunloe tour in Ireland.  He seemed so happy to visit with us, and he really was as furry as he looks.

I hope this little guy is still doing well; he really brightened our day!  Enjoy your Saturday.  Slainte, Lisa

Not Meant to Leave, Part One

We were due to leave Ireland after our first glorious three weeks in the country.  We had reservations on Stena’s ferry out of Dun Laoghaire into Holyhead Wales at some unspeakable hour before daybreak.  Arranging with our bed and breakfast hostess for a taxi at around 4:30 AM, we set our travel alarm and fell into bed.  At 5:00 o’clock, we were awakened to frantic knocking on our door, and a voice whispering, “Your taxi is out there; he’s been waiting.”  We desperately jumped out of bed, threw our belongings into suitcases, and gave up any hope of showers or other waking-up mechanisms.  Our taxi driver gave us the appropriate amount of  a hard time tempered with a lot of laughter, and by the time we reached the ferry, we were awake enough to enjoy the sea and the journey.  But in the back of my mind, I thought that maybe we just should have stayed in Ireland.  🙂  This theme continued on our second trip to Ireland, but that is a story for tomorrow….

Quick poll…how do you feel about the end of a vacation/holiday?
