The Path of Life

We all are on our pathway through life. Most of us are trying our best. As you see here, everyone is walking towards the top of the hill in the Burren. Some are distracted by the things they see on the side; some are waiting for others. My son is choosing to walk on the challenging rocks, and my husband is choosing the smoother path. And me? I’m hanging back from the path, unsure of which way to proceed, and just taking the photograph.

One of the hardest things is understanding why people choose the paths they choose. It’s not our path; it’s not what we would choose. We just don’t understand it. It stresses us out.

The absolutes in this life are belief in Christ Jesus as the Son of God, His sacrifice for us and resurrection, the Bible.

The rest…. well, there is some wiggle room as to the path. Some will choose the smooth way, and some thrive on the rocks. And that’s ok. God has made us all to be different kinds of characters, different personalities. How boring the world would be if we were all homogenous robots.

Just make sure that you are following Jesus on your pathway, whatever it looks like. He will lead you well.

The Dichotomy of a Practical Mind and a Dreaming Heart

In the woods in Killarney

You already know where this post is going. I probably don’t even have to write it. Ok. Blessings, Lisa

Haha…no, I’m going to write it anyway! 🙂

My heart is always dreaming, day dreaming, night dreaming, walking around dreaming. New ideas, new adventures, new horizons.

But my troublesome practical mind puts brakes on many of these things before they can take off and leave the ground. ‘It’s too expensive….we need to save for retirement….you need to be a responsible adult….” You get the idea.

Depending on how your mind and heart is wired, you may agree with one side or the other. “It’s a good thing she has that practical mind; no telling what she’d do.” Or, “She needs to follow her dreams and take more chances.”

But what if you are a practical dreamer?

God gives hopes and dreams. God gives us sound minds. God gives us all things. I just pray that I can hear what He is saying and where He is leading.

Blessings, (again)

A Great Dog Living His Almost-Best, Yet Best, Life

This is our cockapoo dog, Finnegan. He is almost ten years old, and he is a wonderful companion.

As he looked out at the new surroundings on our last vacation, I wonder what he thought. Probably along the lines of….”What is that? Is that a creature? I want to go down there and get it. If this wood just wasn’t in the way. Is it time for treats? Where is Mom and Dad? What was that?” Or maybe he was just content and happy. I love to think about what he thinks.

He loves to run free off-leash, but on vacation and in strange places, it’s not safe for him to do that. So that’s why I say ‘almost-best.’ Yet, that leash and those deck railings provide him safety. Which gives him his ‘best life,’ full of pets, rubs, treats, reliable dog food and water, walks, ball playing, car rides, and comfy beds to sleep on practically all day and night.

Note to self: the things I see as restrictions can sometimes be working for my good. Hmmm…much to ponder now. Which I like.

Love, Lisa

The Solo Seabird

This is the somewhat true story of an older seagull that resides somewhere in the vicinity of Pemaquid, Maine.

He had always been active. He loved to fly, to fish, to dive, to compete with the young gulls for the choice bits of food. But time passed, and he realized that he didn’t feel the need any more to overachieve. His wings and feet were a little cranky, and he felt happy just walking up and down Pemaquid Beach on a quiet day. He occasionally flew and got his food, but mostly, he walked and looked and was.

And he was happy.

The younger seabirds shook their heads and thought, “We will never be old and boring like that.”

But he wasn’t boring; he was just happy with his beach.

I watched this bird for a long time as I sat on Pemaquid Beach a few weeks ago. And as I watched him walk along the shoreline, I hoped sincerely that he wasn’t injured. I couldn’t see anything untoward. Mostly, he just seemed content and happy.

Enjoy your day; enjoy your beach.
