If I Was a Sheep

If I was a sheep, I would eat the grass right in front of me, and then two steps ahead, and then two steps ahead of that.

If I was a sheep, I would walk around in green fields and find contentment with my sheep family.

If I was a sheep, I would lie down at the end of the day, or in the middle of a hot day, and sleep soundly.

If I was a sheep, I would come when my shepherd called me, because I know that he has the good food.

If I was a sheep, I would follow the other sheep and the shepherd into a new and better field without questioning.

I am a sheep, and Jesus is my shepherd.  I just need to learn to listen and trust him better.  Blessings, Lisa

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-just as the Father knows me and I know the Father-and I lay down my life for the sheep.”  (John 10:14-15)

Happy Wanderer

DSCN0451

Me: Walking dog on dewy early morning, waiting for him to do what he needs to do so that I can go back and work on my “to do” list.

Fritz:  Happy to be outside, sniffing the clover, sniffing the grass, sniffing just about everything really, no “to do” list in his mind, just happy.

Hmmm…which one of us had the right idea?  Fritz, living the moment….you go, buddy!  🙂  Carpe diem.  Slainte, Lisa

What Do I Know?

What do I know?  I laughingly say that I am learning that I know very little.  🙂  When I was in my 20’s, I prided myself on being an educated, intelligent person who felt she could figure out most things if given enough time.  But I tell you, as the 30’s and now 40’s are rolling by, I don’t know as much as I thought I did.  And if nothing else will do it, parenting will show you quickly that you really can’t control everything and figure everything out.  Life is a complicated business, with more turns and thrill hills than a rollercoaster.

What do I know?  I know that I love my family, my friends, music, God.  I know that I am thankful that my dog is laying on the floor next to me as I write this.  I know that a little bird is singing his head off outside my window.  And I know that “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 8:38-39)  And that’s enough to know.  Blessings on your day, Lisa

Know It By Heart

When I was little and I would memorize a new song for my piano recital or learn the Gettysburg Address for 4th grade, I would say “I know it by heart.”  Now, knowing something “by heart” means something entirely different….it’s being able to recall something, deep inside, remembering the smells and sounds and touch of something as if it was yesterday.  It’s remembering by heart the feeling of riding my bike, without a helmet, fast down Mt. Run Lane road, the wind ripping through my hair. bike2 It’s feeling by heart the soft stuffed elephant that my then-boyfriend and now-husband gave me at the lockers, his first gift to me.   It’s hearing by heart the sound of my  baby’s first cry as he made his way into the world.  It’s smelling by heart the warm, breezy, salty air as I stepped out of the car at the ocean. bike3

It’s sensing by heart the excitement of Christmas morning as my sister and I ran downstairs, my parents’ happy faces beaming.

So many things I have learned “by heart.”  And I am thankful for each precious one.  Have a blessed weekend.  Slainte, Lisa
