Jenga and Life

We love the game “Jenga” at our home.  The thrill of finding that loose piece, and then placing it on top without making the tower fall, is a simple thrill that makes us all happy.  Near the end, you end up practically holding your breath so that tower will stay up and in one piece.  “Don’t fall, don’t fall,” is the constant refrain.

But eventually, it falls.  And guess what?  We rebuild the tower and start again.

The obvious comparison is there in our lives.  We eventually fall, or fall short, in some way.  We can’t be perfect all the time (or even some of the time) and stand straight and tall and unwavering forever.  But the amazing news is that Jesus will pick us back up, dust us off, and let us start the game over totally new with His strength.

“The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all He has made.  The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”  -Psalm 146:13b-14

Don’t give up; the tower can be rebuilt.  Blessings, Lisa

summer strength

I love this quote.  Strength, hope, future.  And that strength, hope and future lies in God.  He will not let me go, and He won’t let you go either.  Rest in that today.  Slainte, Lisa

Stuck In a Moment

IMG_3086
Things happen sometimes…and not always good things.  School things, work things, home things, health things…this list could go on until we were both really down.  🙂  And sometimes your mind can just get stuck in a loop, playing that mistake or that problem over and over again until it’s almost bigger than it is in reality.  For those of us who enjoy their imaginations, it can be a particularly troublesome aspect.  How to get out of the imagining, the thinking too hard, and into action steps to try to make the problem better.  Two things have been helping me lately…. this verse: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  (Matthew 11:28,29b)

And this song:  “Stuck in a Moment”  c 2000 U2  (excerpts)

“You’ve got to get yourself together; you got stuck in that moment

And you can’t get out of it…

And if the night runs over, and if the day won’t last

And if your way should falter along the stony pass,

It’s just a moment, this time will pass.”

It will pass, and God is my rest.  That’s what I need to know.  Be encouraged in whatever you’re facing today and keep walking.  Slainte, Lisa

A Christmas Donkey

I just read Amy “Saint Francis and the Christmas Donkey” by Robert Byrd.  The delightful story tells how the donkey is unhappy with his braying laugh and long ears, and of course, being able to talk to St. Francis, lets him know of his troubles.  St. Francis tells the wonderful story of how the faithful little donkey once carried Mary and her unborn child Jesus all the way over stony hills and hot desert roads to Bethlehem, and the stout and hearty heart of the donkey did not let her fall.  The book ends with the sweet, tired but fulfilled donkey laying beside the manger with the newborn Christ.  The other donkey, speaking to St. Francis, walks out into the snowy night and is at peace with who God created him to be.

Other than sheep, the farm animal that I love the most is the donkey.  Something about their big heads, long ears, huge eyes, and fuzzy stout body is endearing.  The cross on their backs is super-cool also.  (Symbolic of the donkey carrying Mary and the Christ on his back  🙂  )

Here’s a friendly little fellow we befriended in County Kerry and some other donkey pictures for you to enjoy in this season to celebrate and remember the night that Christ was born.  Slainte, Lisa
