At the End of an Ancient Road…

…lies Dunseverick Castle.  One of the high roads from Tara ended on this beautiful cliff in County Antrim.  Although the castle was destroyed in 1641, it’s location and the imagination of what was is a feast for the eyes and mind.

Here’s to the day….to seeing, to hearing, to thinking, to feeling…all the amazing things that God has placed all around to experience.  Cliffs, water, skies, rocks, grasses, birds, dogs, laughter, tears, wind, rain, warmth….

Inside the Castle Walls

DSCN3805

We all crave safety and security.  Some of us are more adventurous than others, but no matter what adventure you may take, it sure is nice to be snug inside the place you call home with a nice warm cup of tea in your hands.  Through the ages of time on this planet called Earth, people have come up with all kinds of ways to feel safe….castles, walls, ring forts, round towers, weapons, tunnels.  But there is an amazing secret, yet not secret, protection plan that never will fail.  Yes, you may get hurt sometimes, you may have pain or sickness, but nothing will happen to you that does not strengthen you and make you better.  Want to know?

Jesus.  “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.”  Nahum 1:7

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”  Psalm 34:19

“Do not be afraid.  Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today….The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”  Exodus 14:13-14

And you will be safe within his castle walls, forever.  Blessings, Lisa

540 Year Old Trip Stairs

The Trip Stairs

This amazing spiral stairway, built of stone, was designed to give the O’Donnell Chieftain a few strategic advantages during combat . . .

  1. The steps are uneven and vary in height, to trip the unsuspecting assailant – hence their name!
  2. The steps are narrow, so potential invaders would have to ascend in single file, making it easier to overpower them.
  3. The stairway turns clockwise going up.  That gave the right-handedO’Donnells more leeway while sword-fighting defensively downwards.  It also forced any potential invader to either sword-fight with his left hand, or awkwardly maneuver his sword around the stairwell’s solid central axis.
