Be the bird

“If you’re a bird, then I’m a bird!”  The main characters in the movie “The Notebook” are running and laughing on the beach, in love and happy.  The girl acts like she is flying through the waves and shouts, “I’m a bird!”  The boy, laughing lovingly at her, has to be a bird with her, no other choice.  If she is a bird, he is also.  One without the other is unthinkable, unimaginable.

The longing to fly, to soar, to leave the confines of gravity and take off through the beautiful skies are common themes for us humans.  The good news is that if you love Jesus, you will fly.  You will take off with Him and fly forever.  Be the bird.  🙂

“We…will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And so we will be with the Lord forever.”  (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

“I will fly with Jesus; I will soar.  Wrapped in mercy, love and truth & more.  Joy found in Him forever.  I will fly….I will fly…”  (c2012 Lisa Lyons, “I Will Fly”)

Stillness with power

You won’t feel its power until you step in.  Your feet move past the intitial gentle breaker, and you feel the water surrounding you and the sand under your feet.  You let your body float, let the water carry you for a time.  Your mind clears, your worries seem very far away.  You just feel the water, the sun on your face, the gentle rhythm of the small waves, and the weightlessness.

“Be still and know that I am God.”  (Psalm 46:10)  If I can be still and quiet and listen, I can feel God’s power and love for me.  When I am floating on His ocean, I am closer to being quiet and still than in any other place on earth.

Meet Nod & Bob

Nod & Bob

I have declared this week to be beach week here on my blog, and to kick it off, I share with you Nod & Bob.  They reside in Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.  That’s right, they are styrofoam balls, but if you look closely, they have eyes and very cute noses.  My husband and I gave them their eyes when we were happily floating in the crystal blue waters last summer.  (Yes, we defaced the styrofoam, but hey, they look much better now!)  The reason that I share these two characters with you is this:  they are content, they are happy just to nod and bob along on the water.  They are rather tied down to their swimming area containment job, but seem to make the best of it.  They encourage visitors with their pleasant countenance.  And they stick together as friends through it all.

“A friend loves at all times…”  Proverbs 17:17a

“…be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5b

So if you head down to the Bahamas and see Nod & Bob, please send them our best!
