Flawed But Beautiful

The two dogwood trees have flaws.  There are hollow spots in the trunk, yet the trees are still blooming, producing leaves.  They are still beautiful.  They still provide wonderful shade while I’m waiting for Amy to get off the bus; one of them has a bird’s nest nestled in the branches.

Yesterday, I talked briefly with an older gentleman sitting on a bench outside Walmart as I was leaving.  We talked about the sun coming back out and other weather-related discussion.  I noticed a cast on his arm, and asked if he had broken it.  He told me of trouble he had had with his skin as he was aging, and said, “I looked in the mirror this morning and almost broke it.”  He laughed halfheartedly, but I said, “We all see things in the mirror that we don’t like sometime, but I think you look great.”  He smiled and we said goodbye.

Flawed but still beautiful.  We all have our things, things we would change or fix or erase or improve.  But our God sees us as His creations, beautiful children that He has made and that He loves.  He can still use us, despite our flaws, hollow spots,  failings.  Thank goodness.    Have a beautiful autumn weekend.  Slainte, Lisa

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Waiting for Mom

This face says it all.  I had been in this music store in Doolin for over an hour, drooling and looking and generally coveting all the wonderful whistles and music books contained within.  He tried to hang with me for a while, but his seven year old self finally took to the window in a sulk.  My husband captured this wonderful picture for posterity.  🙂

Aren’t pictures great?  They can take you back in time in one instant, just by seeing them.  And think of all the things we have yet to take pictures of, to experience, to delight in God’s stuff…what a wonderful life.  Thankful, Lisa

Places to Go and People to See

Take a good look at this picture of a street in Dingle, Ireland.  Click on it and blow it up really big so you can see all you need to.  I am always very curious as to what you focus on when you see it.  The cones perhaps and questions of why they are there?  The happy baby in the stroller?  Murphy’s Pub where you could settle down in a cozy snug and eat and drink and listen to some trad musicians?  Maybe the bright yellow shop at the end where you could look for the perfect souvenir or warm Aran sweater to take home?  It’s been so cool throughout the life of this blog to hear what different people see in a picture.  It really shows the wonderful myriad of personalities that God has made in this world, and how we’re so alike, but yet so unique.  🙂

After I hear from some of you, I will share what I focus on primarily.  Slainte, Lisa

The Misty Mountains

With “The Hobbit” movie coming out soon, I am feeling Tolkien-minded as I look at this picture of the ascent of Carrantuohill in Ireland.  If you stretch your imagination  a bit, you can almost see Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions as they make their way on their great adventure.

“I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.” (Gandalf)
I should think so — in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!” (Bilbo)

“Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.”

Now I have put myself quite in a mind to re-read The Hobbit.  For about the seventh time, but that’s ok, right?  🙂  Slainte, Lisa

Jet Streams and the Irish Classic Mineral Water Company

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I hereby present picture exhibit A… lovely jet streams.

And picture exhibit B…an empty bottle of Irish Classic Mineral Water Company’s sparkling pure Irish water with my cup containing said water beside it.

What possible link could there possibly be between the two you ask?  Has this blogger finally lost all sense of reason?

A jet stream remains in the sky, seen and witnessed as plausible proof that a jet had been there.  Yet this must be believed by faith sometimes, as the jet is long gone.

I tell you that the green cup contains the sparkling Irish water that was once in the bottle, yet you have to believe me and take it by faith that that is really what is in there.

Beautiful things all around us(blue skies, amazing creatures, storms, oceans, mountains, brand new babies, bird songs, music, true love, art, sunsets, etc)…………………………………………………………………………….Jesus.

Have a joyful time connecting the dots.  Slainte, Lisa
