Writing Standstill

I am working on a novel. Yes, I said it out loud. A little scary to actually commit it into writing. 🙂

But I have hit a roadblock in the plot. Not sure where the characters are going next and what should happen.

So….I haven’t been writing at all, which makes me feel like I am wasting precious time. We only have so many hours on this earth.

The more I think about it though…..isn’t that how we live life? We move ahead, living our lives, sometimes without a clear plan or path. That is why the Bible is so very precious to me….it gives me direction and a path to follow when I have no clue. And it gives the right direction and path, every time.

I am thinking I just need to start again….begin writing and see where it goes. There are always the cut and delete options. My poor characters have stayed still long enough.

Advice is always welcome from any of you readers who are writers…..how do you move past a standstill in your creative process?

Write well, live well, love well. Love, Lisa

Instead

This world likes to scare us. But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but He has given us power, love, and a sound mind. I thought I would find some of my very favorite journey photos my husband and I have taken over the years to try and replace the fear with the good God things this morning. Have fun thinking of your good God things this morning also. Love, Lisa

The Lord Jesus Christ. This Celtic cross is located in Monasterboice, Ireland.
My wonderful husband and family. Blarney Castle, Ireland.

Cliffs by the sea. This was taken in County Antrim, Ireland, near the Carrick-a-Rede Bridge.
Mountains in the mist. Ben Bulben mountains, Co. Sligo, Ireland, on the Gleniff Horseshoe.
God’s creatures, sheep, pets, wooly caterpillars. These wooly sheep were on Valentia Island, Co. Kerry.

These Things

I have a very special guest blogger today….our fourteen year old daughter, Amy. Here is her beautiful poem. Enjoy.

A crystal, clear as water, fine as granulated sand…pure
Think about these things

Wind blowing softly through the pines, at the highest peak on the mountain
Think about these things

Waves crashing against majestic cliffs amidst a rising sun
Think about these things

Rain pattering gently onto the grass helping to nurture and tame
While the sun’s rays pull every blade higher and higher out of its secure underground
home
Think about these things

Think about what is worthy to be praised
The Lord should give us you every reason to feel a little dazed

For the Lamb is our love and our light
If He is in us, than we shall shine bright

Let us share these things with others
So that they may tell all their sisters and brothers

Rejoice in His name
And His blessings you will obtain

If anything is good or excellent, commendable or pure
Think about these things

Permission to Dream

Outer Banks, NC seagull, dreaming seagull dreams 🙂

You have permission to dream. It is ok, actually more than ok; it is necessary to dream. God has created each one of us. We all have a unique personality and a unique reason that we are here on this earth. When we live and move and breathe in Christ Jesus, He gives us desires and dreams and goals. He has given us a mission each day, even if its just smiling at your neighbor, or being extra kind to your dog, or doing the laundry with a good attitude.

Life can try to beat those dreams out of us. Especially lately. COVID and the other problems of the world try to tell us there is no hope, no use, no way. But Jesus says, “With man this is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

I am praying actively that Christ will bring my dreams into alignment with His. That He will continue to bring me out of my COVID and fear-induced stupor and into action for Him. I am trying to wake up each morning and be excited again about life and the day and what it holds. And I know that God, who loves me more than I can even imagine, has plans for me that I cannot fathom. That there is no age or circumstance where it is too late or impossible. I am giving myself permission to dream, and I am excited.

“A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul.” – Proverbs 13:19a

“Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” -Psalm 37:4

It’s ok to dream. Love the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind, and He will direct your steps. I would love to hear from you. Please write in the comments below. Have a wonderful weekend. Love, Lisa
