Back to Ireland

“Back to Ireland”

Oh, I wish I could go back to Ireland to the greenest fields I’ve ever seen

And I’d walk on the road out of Doolin to watch the wild waves on the sea

My eyes long to see loughs of Kerry as the sheep gather ’round them to drink

Of the pure crystal water of Ireland & go on their way as I dream

I would stop on Dublin’s streets just to listen to the singer as he sings his lovely song

Then sit near a warm roaring fire and hear a story from so long ago

Oh I wish I could go back to Ireland to the castles that stay in my mind

All the people that passed through their hallways & lived, loved & laughed on her shores

I would stop into a church on a hilltop surrounded by the high crosses there

And sit for a while and just listen to the small, still voice of God

Picking a Favorite

Many different instruments can be used to create the wonder that is celtic music.  Fiddle, tinwhistle, low whistle, guitar, accordian, bodhran drum, uillean pipes, hammered dulcimer, piano…..I’m sure I’m leaving out some, but you get the basic idea.  The other day as I was listening to a recording I tried to decide which instrument was my very favorite…the one I would miss the most if it was missing.  The winner?……..

The tinwhistles and low whistles…without a doubt.  Very expressive instruments that seem to “sing” the Irish melodies with just the right amount of melancholy or joy, depending on the tune.  I have some whistles, and have yet to capture the right sound.  Oh, I can play most of the notes, but there is so much more than that…the small little turns and dips and expression that makes it such a wonderful instrument.  But I’m glad I can’t play them right yet; it gives me something to work on to keep me out of trouble!  🙂

Enjoy whatever kind of music you’re listening to today, and sing to the Lord a new song!  Slainte, Lisa

The Traveler

“The Traveler”

c2012 Lisa Lyons

Feet are on the road trying to find a place to breathe,

I know I’m not alone, but it can be so lonely trying to get to the heart of what it means to

travel down this road before me.

Never been this way, but the Light before me keeps on shining…

Love is leading me along; Light is in the evening song.

I will find a place to rest and think and sit a while by the waters still,

By the greenest meadow I have ever seen in all my life

The Peace that fills my soul lets me breathe and breathe again

Like I’ve never felt the air before.

When I’ve reached the end of the road and all the wonderful adventures that I’ve known

And I finally see the One who loves me with a perfect love

Who died so I could live forever with Him in Paradise

Neverending journey, safe in His arms….

Love is leading me along; Light is in the evening song.

Slainte, Lisa
