It’s A Small World, Ireland Edition

We just returned from a fun family vacation to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  And I must be a big kid, because I had just as good a time as my 5 year old daughter.  🙂  My very favorite rides are the two I loved as a child, “Peter Pan’s Flight” and “It’s a Small World.”  The first ride goes without saying…”FLYING!!!”  And Small World has all of those wonderful little dolls dressed up from around the world, singing to me in their languages as I float along peacefully in my little boat.  When we got to Ireland’s part, I had to laugh at the stereotypical representation of leprechauns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I still loved it.

I’m sorry if I have now caused you to sing “It’s a small world” in your head all day; you could always hum “You can fly; you can fly; you can fly” instead if you prefer.  🙂

And Past the Rocks, There Was a Meadow

When I first look at this photo, all I see are the rocks.  Maybe a little water, but mostly sharp, uncomfortable looking stones.  As I take more time, the green comes into view, and a beautiful meadow past the rocks.  If I were there in that place right now, if I was patient and creative in my pathfinding, I could make my way to that meadow and rest and sit and think.

Life is full of rocks and sharp uncomfortable things.  But life is also full of beautiful meadows.  And it constantly amazes me that sometimes it takes the sharp rocks to make me fully appreciate the meadow.  Because God works like that.  He loves me, and He knows that I tend to take life for granted, and that I need to trust Him more and know that He’s there for me no matter what rocks I stumble on.

“And if your way should stumble along the stony pass, it’s just a moment, this too shall pass.”  (U2, Stuck in a Moment)

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul.”  (Psalm 23:1-3a)

God’s Teardrops

Rain in Ireland

Does God feel what we feel?  Does He understand what it means to be human, to cry, to laugh, to dance, to mourn?  I believe that He does.

Jesus wept when confronted with the sorrow of his friends Mary & Martha at the death of their brother Lazarus, even though He knew He would raise him back to life.  He had great compassion.

God let Jesus walk this road with us so He would understand completely what we go through each day in this life.  And it is wonderful to know that He knows.  “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)
