Thirsty?

When I’m thirsty, only cool plain water really satisfies. There’s not much better than being really parched, and gulping down big swallows of cold water.  Before you think this is an ad for Dasani or something 🙂 , let me show you a picture of some beautiful water in County Cork.  Listening to the flow of the water drowns out my troubled thoughts, my worries, my plans momentarily.  There’s just the water, the sounds, the peace.

Cool, clear water in County Cork

I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS SAY (partial lyrics)

Lyrics – Horatius Bonar  Tune – VOX DILECTI

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold, I freely give

The living water, thirsty one, stoop down & drink & live”

I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life giving stream

My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in Him.

Go ahead; go on and drink some water…lots of it.  Have a wonderful day.

And Past the Rocks, There Was a Meadow

When I first look at this photo, all I see are the rocks.  Maybe a little water, but mostly sharp, uncomfortable looking stones.  As I take more time, the green comes into view, and a beautiful meadow past the rocks.  If I were there in that place right now, if I was patient and creative in my pathfinding, I could make my way to that meadow and rest and sit and think.

Life is full of rocks and sharp uncomfortable things.  But life is also full of beautiful meadows.  And it constantly amazes me that sometimes it takes the sharp rocks to make me fully appreciate the meadow.  Because God works like that.  He loves me, and He knows that I tend to take life for granted, and that I need to trust Him more and know that He’s there for me no matter what rocks I stumble on.

“And if your way should stumble along the stony pass, it’s just a moment, this too shall pass.”  (U2, Stuck in a Moment)

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul.”  (Psalm 23:1-3a)

God’s Teardrops

Rain in Ireland

Does God feel what we feel?  Does He understand what it means to be human, to cry, to laugh, to dance, to mourn?  I believe that He does.

Jesus wept when confronted with the sorrow of his friends Mary & Martha at the death of their brother Lazarus, even though He knew He would raise him back to life.  He had great compassion.

God let Jesus walk this road with us so He would understand completely what we go through each day in this life.  And it is wonderful to know that He knows.  “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)
