I love the ocean, no doubt about it. The pull of the water is relentless, because I remember the great peace it provides as I stand beside it. The waves are loud, reliable, even. The worried thoughts that sometimes fill my head are remarkably silenced. God speaks through His creation, and the power in His oceans is great. And I am silent, and listen.
On sunny days I love to close my eyes, feel the warmth on my face, and focus on the sound of the waves, the seagulls. On windy tumultuous days I imagine faraway days of ships at sea and fishermen struggling against the mighty ocean’s fury. But always, I hear God’s voice. “Stronger than the mighty waves, are You Lord….” (“You Are Lord”, c1996 Lisa Lyons) I am thankful today for those waves.
